Hyannis is located in Barnstable County 7 miles W of S Yarmouth along Highway 28. Hyannis' nearby beaches, particularly Craigville Beach, the largest on the cape, are very popular. The town's harbor is deep enough to accommodate ocean-going yachts.

A memorial to John F. Kennedy on Ocean St. has a small pool and fountain with a circular fieldstone wall bearing the presidential seal. Hyannis is part of the Barnstable-Yarmouth, Massachusetts metro area.
