Ambler is located in Northwest Arctic Borough, within the Far North Region, near the confluence of the Ambler and Kobuk Rivers, east of Kobuk Valley National Park. Ambler was settled in 1958 when people from Shungnak and Kobuk moved downstream for the variety of fish, wild game, and trees. An archaeological site is located nearby.
