Plains bison were introduced into Alaska in the 1920s, and have continued to thrive in the area. The 90,000-acre Delta Junction State Bison Range was established in 1979 to attract the approximately 400 wild bison to managed habitat, away from nearby barley fields. In addition to bison, visitors may view moose, black bears, coyotes, and a variety of waterfowl.
The bison range starts about 12 miles southeast of Delta Junction on the Richardson Hwy.
