Held annually in March, the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race features racers and dogs from all over the country.
The 1150-mile race runs from Anchorage to Nome. The race had its beginnings in Nome in 1973, and today, mushers traverse the The National Historic Iditarod Trail.
There is also a Jr. Iditarod race for young mushers interested in distance racing. It is held on the weekend immediately preceding the start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
