Kenai National Wildlife Refuge

This wildlife refuge was originally created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as a moose preserve. It now totals 1,970,000 acres on the west Kenai Peninsula. In addition to moose, it is home to Dall sheep, black bears and bald eagles.

The park is open all year and is subject to state and local hunting and fishing regulations. There are numerous boat ramps, trails, canoe trails and campgrounds in the area, which is administered by the US Fish & Wildlife Service.

Large rivers that empty into Cook Inlet are the Swanson, Kenai and Kasilof. There is a visitor center at Kenai NWR Visitors Center. For information, contact Kenai NWR Manager.
