The Kobuk River is a Nationally Designated Wild and Scenic River. Major features along the Kobuk River including the 25-square-mile Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, as well as smaller additional dunes.
The river valley provides fall and winter range for western Arctic caribou. The community of Kobuk is an Interior Inupiaq Eskmimo village.
