Lower Kalsag

Search Lower Kalsag Alaska

The site was originally used as a fish camp for families of Upper Kalsag, two miles to the northeast. In the 1930s, people began to establish year round homes here. The Russian Orthodox residents of Upper Kalsag (a predominatley Roman Catholic village) moved to Lower Kalsag because of religious differences in 1940.

The village is accessible by boat in the summer and snowmachine in the winter.
