Search Nunam Iqua Alaska

Nunam Iqua is on the south fork of the Yukon River, about 9 miles south of Alakanuk. It is a relatively new Eskimo village which was first reported in 1950. The community was formerly called Sheldon Point - named after a man who owned and operated a fish saltery at the site. Nunam Iqua means, "end of the tundra" in Yup'ik.

Commercial fishing is the economic foundation of Nunam Iqua. Subsistence activities and trapping supplement income.
