The Parks Hwy joins the Glenn Hwy/Tok Cutoff 35 miles north of Anchorage to Fairbanks 323 miles to the north. The paved road was completed in 1971 and is open all year, although winter storms can be severe. It is the most direct access to Denali National Park and Preserve. Denali National Park and Preserve is 237 miles from Anchorage and 120 miles from Fairbanks. The scenic highways connect Alaska's main population centers.
