Pilot Point lies on the northern coast of the Alaska Peninsula in the
Lake and Peninsula Borough, on the east side of Ugashik Bay. During the late 1800s, pilots were stationed here to take boats upriver to a large cannery at Ugashik - this was the basis for the village name.
The residents of Pilot Point depend upon commercial salmon fishing for the majority of their income. Up to 700 commercial boats are fishing the waters around Pilot Point by mid-July.
