Search Visit Alaska

Anchorage, the state's largest city, is the center of activity in Southcentral Alaska. The region stretches 650 miles from the Gulf of Alaska to the Alaska Range which towers over the state.

The region includes the Matanuska-Susitna river valleys near Palmer, the Kenai Peninsula and its fishing, Prince William Sound and its glaciers, the Chugach Mtns in the Chugach National Forest, the Wrangell-St Elias NP and Preserve mountains, plus Anchorage.

This region includes Mount McKinley, perhaps Alaska's most famous feature. It is within Denali National Park and Preserve; Denali, "The Great One", is the Indian name for the peak.
