Demopolis is a city that is rich in its history. Some of the historic sites and museums of history in the area are the Gaineswood, Bluff Hall, Laird Cottage, and the Lyon House Museum.
The city is found in Marengo County (Central Region), west of Selma along Highway 80. This area is a place of scenic variety and recreational activities that citizens enjoy all year long. Deriving from the Greek language, the cities name means "the people's city". This goes to show that the city is full of entertainment throughout the area.
Some of the things in the area are the Demopolis Lock & Dam created a 10,000 acre lake near the city. The lock & dam create an excellent area for anyones fishing and boating activities. The Chickasaw State Park is also nearby providing many recreational activities such as hiking, camping, and picnics.
