Newport is located in
Jackson County (of which it is the county seat) southwest of
Jonesboro between
Jacksonport and Amagon along Hwy 14 on the banks of the
White River near DeView Bayou.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 6,763, a decrease of 696 since 1990.
