Paragould is located in Greene County (of which it is the county seat) northeast of Jonesboro between Marmaduke and Brookland along Hwy 49 near the St. Francis River and the Missouri boarder. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 21,971, an increase of 3,431 since 1990.

Settled in the rolling foothills of Crowley's Ridge, this community has an abundance of outdoor recreation to offer. Paragould was incorporated in 1883.
