Aravaipa Canyon, with its outstanding scenery, desert fish, wildlife, rich history and opportunities for primitive recreation, was preserved in 1984 by an Act of Congress (later expanded in 1990) to remain free from the influence of man. As a designated Wilderness Area, visitors will not find expected park amenities at Aravaipa. There are no trails, and no facilities are available. The area is pristine and natural, however, primitive toilets are located at each trailhead parking lot. There are also no directional, informational, or location signs at Aravaipa. Once inside the wilderness boundary, visitors should note the nine side canyons to keep track of their approximate location. To insure desirable solitude and lessen human impact, Canyon use is limited to 50 people per day. The maximum stay is three days. An advance permit is required and can be obtained from the BLM's Safford Field Office.
