Garces Footbridge

This is a memorial to Francisco Garces, an explorer and the first Franciscan missionary to the Pima Indian village at the foot of Sentinel Peak ("A" Mountain) in the west part of Tucson. Visitors can see a 14-foot bronze statue of Pancho Villa by Mexican sculptor Julian Martinez, a gift from Mexico in 1981. Pancho Villa was either a Mexican revolutionary hero or a bandit, depending on personal historical perspective of this colorful figure. At the north end of the bridge is the Pima County Governmental Center.
