Hubbell Trading PostA National Historic Site |
Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site is home to the nation's oldest continuously operated trading post. In fact, many Navajos still purchase groceries and other dry goods at the store. The trading post was established in 1878 and owner John L Hubbell, fond of the rugs made by his Navajo customers, began to sell their creations through his store. These beautiful handmade works of art are still available for sale at Hubbell Trading Post and also online at Southwest Parks and Monument's web site.
The site consists of the original 160-acre homestead, where visitors can visit the trading post and Hubbell family home, as well as a more recent visitor center and bookstore. Scheduled guided tours and self-guided tours are available.
The Trading Post is located 28 miles west of Window Rock, Arizona.
