Founded in 1885 as a territorial normal school in Tempe, Arizona State University had its start as a four-room building, constructed on a former cow pasture, with one faculty member and 33 students all working to become teachers for Arizona's public schools. Today, ASU is the largest university in Arizona and the major producer of graduates in the state. Nearly 45,000 students from all states and more than 120 countries enroll at ASU each year. More than 100 majors are offered through 8 colleges while the Craig and Barbara Barrett Honors College offers a small, intellectually and socially vibrant community for the best and brightest. Arizona State University-Main Campus is located in Tempe, Maricopa County, AZ, and athletic scholarships are given in football, basketball, baseball, track/cross country and other sports.
