Mayer is an unincorporated town that draws many individuals to its cool mountain setting. The town sits at an elevation of 4,370 feet. The climate is mild all year round with a winter low temperature of 23 degrees and summer high temperature of 85 degrees.

Joseph Mayer came to the area in 1881. He built a store and a saloon. Later, he established a Wells Fargo stage station. The station was built along the line between Phoenix and Prescott. After a period of time, the town was named after him.

Today Mayer is a growing community. The town holds the Mayer Daze Celebration in June.
