Chandler Regional Hospital (CRH) is a 210-bed hospital that serves the East Valley, one of the fastest growing areas in the entire country.
Chandler residents began campaigning for a hospital in the late l950s when the East Valley was a sparsely populated rural area without a hospital. The community organized a hospital district to publicly fund the building and equipping of 40-bed Chandler Community Hospital (later renamed Chandler Regional Hospital), which opened on July 17, 1961 near downtown Chandler.
As the community grew, CRH expanded to meet the need for health care. First came a new 120-bed facility in 1984 at CRH's present location. Then several key areas were expanded, including the opening of their East Valley Regional Cancer Center to treat all forms of cancer in 1998. The following year the Family Birth Center, the Emergency and Trauma II Center, Diagnostic Imaging and the Surgery Department was completed. Another major expansion of the Birth Center was completed, along with construction of a new Telemetry Unit.
