St. Luke's has a long tradition of excellence in the area of behavioral health services dating back to 1969 when the National Institutes of Mental Health awarded St. Luke's a grant to open a 20-bed psychiatric unit on the third floor of St. Luke's Medical Center. The services expanded and moved to a building adjoining St. Luke's Medical Center in the early 1970's. In 1981, St. Luke's Behavioral Health Center was opened with 70 licensed beds to treat adults, adolescents and children requiring psychiatric and chemical dependency care.
