Monti's features steaks, prime rib, seafood and other varieties served in a family dining setting. The restaurant holds a Western atmosphere located in downtown Tempe. This is one of Arizona's historical landmark. All major credit cards are accepted. Monti's La Casa Vieja began as the residence of Charles Trumbull Hayden, who settled here in 1871 to build a flourmill and a ferry service for year-round crossings of the then-flowing Salt River. Hayden married Sallie Davis, and the couple turned their residence into a hotel, blacksmith shop, post office and general store. The community became known as Hayden's Ferry. In 1877 the Hayden's had a son, Carl. He would go on to become a sheriff, cavalry soldier and congressman, serving a combined total of over 57 years in the House and Senate of the United States. (The Arizona Republic recently chose Carl as first in a list of the most important people in Arizona history.)
