Mount Graham Observatory Tours |
Tours of the Mount Graham International Observatory are conducted by Discovery Park's Gov Aker Observatory on Tuesday and Saturdays, mid-May through mid-November. The trip up scenic Mount Graham focuses on its geology, history, and diversity of life. The tour consists of a lunch near the summit of the mountain (included in price), and a guided tour of the observatory facility. The observatory facility consists of the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope and the Heinrich Hertz Submillimeter Telescope. The construction site of the Large Binocular Telescope, which will be the world's most powerful optical telescope when completed, will be visited if no construction is in progress on the day of the tour. Passengers will then spend an evening at Discovery Park, including a docent-guided tour of the Gov Aker Observatory and stargazing through the Gov Aker Observatory's 20-inch telescope.
The tour van leaves at 10:00 a.m. and returns at 4:00 p.m. PLease arrive at about 9:30 for check-in.
