Navajo National Monument

A National Park Site

Navajo National Monument preserves three cliff dwellings of the mysterious and historic Anasazi people. Situated high on the Shonto Plateau, the monument site overlooks the Tsegi Canyon system and features a visitor center, two self-guided mesa-top trails, a campground, and picnic area.

Rangers guide summer visitors on tours of the Keet Seel and Betatakin cliff dwellings.

The year-round visitor center displays exhibits of Anasazi and Navajo artifacts, along with a replica of a Betatakin room cluster.

The auditorium presents a video relating information about the Betatakin cliff dwelling.

A traditional Navajo hogan, sweat lodge, museum, and 19th-century wagon are displayed on the grounds behind the visitor center building. Other facilities include restrooms, and an on-site retail outlet for Native American craft and jewelry items. Three self-guided trails and two small campgrounds are also included in its offerings.

Visitor Center hours are 8am-5pm daily; closed Christmas and New Year's Day.

The Navajo National Monument is located 16 miles west of Kayenta.
