Navajo National Monument preserves three cliff dwellings of the mysterious and historic Anasazi people. Situated high on the Shonto Plateau, the monument site overlooks the Tsegi Canyon system and features a visitor center, two self-guided mesa-top trails, a campground, and picnic area.
Rangers guide summer visitors on tours of the Keet Seel and Betatakin cliff dwellings.
The year-round visitor center displays exhibits of Anasazi and Navajo artifacts, along with a replica of a Betatakin room cluster.
The auditorium presents a video relating information about the Betatakin cliff dwelling.
A traditional Navajo hogan, sweat lodge, museum, and 19th-century wagon are displayed on the grounds behind the visitor center building. Other facilities include restrooms, and an on-site retail outlet for Native American craft and jewelry items. Three self-guided trails and two small campgrounds are also included in its offerings.
Visitor Center hours are 8am-5pm daily; closed Christmas and New Year's Day.
The Navajo National Monument is located 16 miles west of Kayenta.
