The Old Tumco Ghost Town claimed a population of 3,000 in 1880. The residents may not remain but the town does. Once a roaring mining town between 1870-1909, Tumco mines poured out $11 million in gold in its day. The town boasted seven saloons, two cemeteries, two churches, and a school, but little remains.
Guests of the town may enjoy a self-guided 1.5 mile walk through history. Beware of open mine shafts!
To reach the deserted town head east on I-8 and Ogilby Road and go north nine miles.
