Rainbow Natural BridgeA National Monument Site |
The Rainbow Bridge National Monument is a natural beauty formed of salmon-pink sandstone that resembles the arc of a rainbow, and stands majestically above the serene blue waters of Arizona's Lake Powell. Situated just across the Arizona state line in Utah's Natural Bridge National Park, the world's largest natural bridge stretches upward over 300 feet above the rough canyon floor. The awe-inspiring formation is of historical importance, having been considered a sacred site by neighboring American Indian tribes; the impressive site still inspires a sense of respect in spectators. Rainbow Bridge is accessible only by hiking, boat, or horseback, - visitors will travel approximately 14 miles by land over rugged terrain, or about 50 miles by boat from the Glen Canyon Dam. Concessionaire boat tours and other services are available in Page, Arizona. A permit is required for hiking or camping; for more information, call or write to the Navajo
