This site provides visitors with an interesting example of the historic making its place in history atop the prehistoric. The Sawmill Historic Site and Uinkaret Pueblo are situated just a short walk from parking along County Road 5. While little remains of the sawmill, evidence remains at the site of pits, roadways, pilings, and discarded logs that can still be seen by those who look closely. Not far from the sawmill site, much more of the remaining crumbled walls of the Uinkaret Pueblo is visible.
Take Quail Hill Road (BLM Road 1069) to Main Street Valley Road (County Road 5), then drive to the Nixon Flat area at the southern foot of Mt. Trumbull. A plaque marks the parking area. Call the Bureau of Land Management's Visitor Information Center in St. George, Utah for more information on road conditions, regional recreation, and scheduled current events.
