Santa Cruz River

The Santa Cruz River flows nearly parallel to I-19 from Tucson south to Old Mexico.

As the last Ice Age ended and the climate of Southern Arizona warmed and dried out, the flows of the Santa Cruz River near Tucson became erratic and then vanished completely by the mid-1950s.

Tucson Audubon, in cooperation with the City of Tucson, is pursuing revegetation and habitat restoration work along the Santa Cruz River in Marana.
