Tumacacori National Historical Park |
This National Historical Park preserves the abandoned Mission San Jose de Tumacacori and two other colonial mission sites (Guevavi, and Calabazas). The park's visitor center is located at the Tumacacori site. These three sites were among the more than 20 missions originally established by the Pimerķa Alta by Father Kino and other Jesuits.
A self-guided tour includes the church and cemetery, mortuary chapel, portions of the convent area, a patio garden and a visitors center/museum.
The Tumacacori Fiesta, held the first weekend in December, features the crafts and foods of the Apache, Mexican/Spanish, Pima, Tohono O'odham and Yaqui cultures.
Picnic facilities are available. Allow one hour minimum for your visit.
Opened 8-5 daily except Thanksgiving and December 25. Located 19 miles north of Nogales on I-19.
