Portland Island is the park, given to Her Royal Highness, Princess Margaret to commemorate her visit to British Columbia in the Province's Centennial Year, 1958. Located off the southern end of Saltspring Island (off the southeastern coast of Vancouver Island), the park offers sandy beaches on the northwest and southwest shores, fair weather anchorages at North Bay behind Chads Island, and near Tortoise Island on the south side of the park. Limited development includes trails that circle and cross the island, and a handpump for water. Small islands offshore are private property and should be respected. Princess Margaret returned the park to the Province when it was made a marine park and named in her honor.
This is just one of hundreds of British Columbia Provincial Parks.
