Known at one point as the "Monte Carlo of the North," Sandon was at the heart of the richest silver-mining region of North America from the 1890s on. With a population of 8,000-plus, Sandon and its surrounding area once filled its narrow valley to near-bursting with miners, businessmen, speculators, professional gamblers, madames and millionaires.
