A challenging 44 mile (72 km) trail running from
Bamfield to
Port Renfrew. The trek will require a lot of preparation and physical stamina, and takes several days to traverse. There are dangers from wind, rain, rough seas, and from the trail itself. However, many rewards lie in such surprises as marine, bird and mammal life of the area, quickly changing weather, and the magnificent solitude of the dramatic natural environment.
Early in this century, the trail provided a route for victims of shipwreck to find their way to the safety of civilization. This coast is beautiful, but hazardous. To reach Bamfield, take the ferry or car from Port Alberni, or drive from Lake Cowichan.
