Search Visit British Columbia
Several pods of Orcas (killer whales) inhabit the waters around Vancouver Island year-round, and are commonly seen from ferries between the mainland and the island. They frequent Johnstone Strait and in one area, Robson Bight, they enjoy rubbing against the beach. This area has been made into an ecological preserve.

Several companies operate Orca whale-watching excursions out of Victoria and other parts of the zvancouv]. Gray whales migrate between Baja, California and Alaska, traveling south in the fall to bear their young, then north in the spring to feed in the Bering Sea. Small boat excursions are offered in Tofino and Ucluelet to watch these thrilling migrations.
