Braine-l'Alleud is a southern suburb of Brussels with 35,000 residents, making it the most populous commune in the province of Brabant Wallon. "Braine" is the historic name of a river now known as Hain, which flows across the town and then empties into the Senette River; "l'Alleud" means "freehold", a type of municipality. L'Hotel Communal, the Church of Saint Etienne, and the Chateau de Bois Seigneur Issac are some of the places of architectural interest in Braine l'Alleud. Ophain-Bois-Seigneur-Isaac and Lillois-Witterzee are boroughs within the municipal district of Brain-l'Alleud.
