Chateau de Beloeil

Search Beloeil

Beloeil was the site of a 12th century fortress, but the castle standing on the site today was built mainly over the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. The main building burnt down in 1900 but heroics by castle staff and local townspeople saved almost all of the valuable art and furniture collections, which are now back in place in a studiously reconstructed building. A small train carries guests around the vast grounds of the estate, which feature exquisite sculpted gardens.
