Couvin is a commune of 13,000 on the border with France, due south of Charleroi. The primary industry was once metalworking; the industrial revolution came very early, bringing founderies to Couvin as early as the 18th century. Today, the main sources of income for the town are manufacturing and tourism. A major corporate presence in Couvin is the sports racquet manufacturer, Donnay. The town center's main tourist attraction is a set of caves, called the Cavernes de l'Abime, which hold a multimedia museum exhibit on prehistory. Aublain, Boussu-en-Fagne, Bruly, Bruly-de-Pesche, Cul-des-Sarts, Dailly, Frasnes-lez-Couvin, Gonrieux, Mariembourg, Pesche, Petigny, Petite-Chapelle, and Presgaux are boroughs within the municipal district of Couvin.
