The commune of Demderleeuw, population 20,000, is located 20 kilometers northwest of
Brussels. The
Dender River flows along its eastern border, and the E40 roadway passes through from east to west. One of Denderleeuws prime attractions is De Heeren van Liedekercke, a famous brewpub with excellent examples of Belgian Lambic beers. Denderleeuw has a significant Kurdish enclave.
Iddergem and Welle are boroughs within the municipal district of Denderleeuw.
