Franchimont Castle Ruins

Search Theux

Franchimont was the site of a fortress as early as the Carolingian period. The present ruins are from a castle that was built in 1066; over the next few hundred years it went through several remodelings and a harsh siege, in 1487. After the French Revolution, the castle was abandoned and fell into disrepair, eventually decaying to ruins. It is possible to visit Franchimont today; the property is owned by the town of Theux, and it occasionally hosts renaissance faires.
