Heuvelland, population 8,000, is a peaceful commune of lakes and walking trails south of
Ypres, on Belgium's border with France. The further south, the more undulating the terrain. Two mountaintops in Heuvelland noted for the views they command are Kemmelberg and Rodeberg. On the south slope of Rodeberg 5,000 unknown soldiers are buried.
Dranouter, Kemmel, Loker, Nieuwkerke (Neuve-Eglise), Westouter, Wijtschate (Wytschaete), and Wulvergem are boroughs within the municipal district of Heuvelland.
