Jabbeke, located immediately west of
Brugge, was famous in the twentieth century because the Jabbeke Highway was, for a time, one of the only places in Europe available for high speed automobile testing. The artist Constant Permeke lived in Jabbeke for twenty years; his home has been turned into a museum which contains almost all of his sculpted works. Jabbeke has a population of 14,000.
Snellegem, Stalhille, Varsenare, and Zerkegem are boroughs within the municipal district of Jabbeke.
