Kasterlee, population 18,000, is situated 35 kilometers east of
Antwerp in the midst of hilly
Kempen woods, with over 2,000 hectares of the commune's surface area covered by forest. A 125 hectare youth camp with numerous campgrounds attracts many visitors each year. Two nature preserves are Zwart Water (Black Water) and Snepkens Pond. A British war cemetary and a picturesque windmill are the chief monuments of interest.
Lichtaart and Tielen are boroughs within the municipal district of Kasterlee.
