Maldegem, a commune of 22,000 at the Dutch border, 18 kilometers east of
Brugge, features a steam engine museum, and hosts an annual steam engine convention. There is a famous graveyard that holds Canadian World War II casualties, and a museum in their honor. The E34 roadway passes by the town center.
Adegem and Middelburg are boroughs within the municipal district of Maldegem.
