The Museum of Wallonian Art is notable for its unusual architectural design. The building has a square outline, and a garden with an open sky atop the fourth floor which serves as the starting point for visitors, who descend downward through the exhibits. The museum's 2,500 paintings and several hundred sculptures are arranged in chronological order, thus the oldest pieces, dating from the 16th century, reside near the top and contemporary works occupy the lower floors. The artists represented are all from the
Wallonia region of Belgium.
