The beach is extremely wide at the small coastal fishing town of Oostduinkerke, yielding ideal conditions for the popular activity of landsailing (essentially windsurfing on surfboards outfitted with wheels). Local attractions of note include the National Fishery Museum and the entertaining Key and Lock Museum.
If you see riders on horseback crashing through Oostduinkerke's ocean surf dragging shrimp nets, act amused: this obsolete tradition continues only for the benefit of tourists.
