Tessenderlo is a village with 15,000 inhabitants, 20 kilometers northeast of
Hasselt along the E313 roadway. Working life revolves around an industrial park, the Tessenderlo Chemie, celebrated with a small monument commemorating 30 years of contribution to Belgium's industrialization. The principle tourist attraction is St. Nicholas' Church, which dates from 1379.
