Veves Castle

Chateau de Veves

Search Celles-Houyet

The round pointed towers, the uneven pentagonal layout, and the elevated location atop a rocky outcrop overlooking two valleys give the castle of Veves an archetypal fairy-tale mystique. The first fortress on this site was built in 685 and later destroyed by rivals from the nearby town of Dinant; the present building dates from 1410, with interiors from the 16th century. It is still in the posession of the family who had it built, the Beauforts.
