Wavre, a commune of 31,000 located 15 kilometers southwest of Brussels along the E411 roadway, is internationally recognized for two items. First, the Battle of Wavre was fought on the same day as the famous Battle of Waterloo, only a few miles away, and it was the French failure to cut off Prussian reinforcements at Wavre that ultimately led to Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo when those reinforcements arrived to back up Wellington's troops. Second, today's Wavre is home to a Six Flags amusement park, one of the largest such parks in Europe.

Bierges and Limal are boroughs within the municipal district of Wavre.
