CALTRAIN is a commuter train underwritten by the state of California. Hourly trains throughout the day, 7 days per week deliver riders to interim San Francisco Peninsula destinations. Beginning at the AMTRAK / CALTRAIN station near downtown San Jose, CALTRAIN extends over 50 miles on double tracks to the edge of downtown San Francisco.

CALTRAIN riders enjoy a relaxing ride, sans automobile traffic and enjoy the view as it slips by.

The AMTRACK line, The Coast Starlight by Amtrak out of San Diego continues from the San Jose station up the east side of San Francisco Bay to the Emeryville Transfer station.
