Caspar is located in Mendocino County. It was the filming location for 1966 movie, "The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!"

Caspar is a historical logging community. Receiving logs up to 12 feet in diameter, innovative ways were invented here that led the entire logging industry. 26 miles of railroad track led into the forests in the surrounding Caspar, but did not connect to any other tracks that led out of the local area. Coastal boats called "Dog Schooners" plied the California coast with passengers and cargo, including the milled lumber from the inaccessible redwood coast. It wasn’t until the completion of the Golden Gate Bridge in 1939 that roads began to appear on the north coast.
