Coloma California

Coloma, northeast of Sacramento is located on the south fork of the American River in Placer County.

Coloma is where James Marshall, an employee of John Sutter worked on the construction of a sawmill on the American River and discovered gold. This event set the tone for the The California Gold Rush.

The Coloma Valley lies in the Sierra foothills, in the heart of California's Gold Country. In its center is the South Fork of the American River. Today this river is also known throughout California for its inviting and exciting whitewater rapids. Along the river banks lie the quietly beautiful communities of Coloma and Lotus.

There is also a Coloma, Michigan.

Coloma is part of the Sacramento, California metro area.
